Brief Connect v2.2.9 Release Notes
Release date - 05 Sept, 2025
Version 2.2.9 was a substantial release, including many new features to configure and customise your Brief Connect experience. Note that these release notes are inclusive of updates from 2.1.10 to 2.2.9
New features
-
PDF Pack updates
-
You can now insert custom fields into PDF Packs. Previously customers were limited to a subset of allowed fields.
- Support for a "signature block" field in PDF Packs.

-
The "Original Correspondence" file uploaded to a correspondence-enabled record will be included in the PDF Pack (as long as the file is compatible with PDF Pack generation -
Convert to other formats - Microsoft Graph v1.0 | Microsoft Learn) -
Enhanced record cloning
Now when you clone a record, you can choose whether the cloned record should be related to the original, as well as customising the role assignments prior to cloning the record.
-
Other updates:
-
A new column on the dashboard to show which Role is currently assigned (i.e. Approver is assigned - as opposed to the user assigned the Approver role)
- Drag and drop to upload files to a record from your desktop (this can be globally disabled via feature flag)
- Filter activity log entries

New features requiring configuration updates
-
Security Classification updates
-
We've moved where you set the classification for a record to the Access tab instead of the Details tab
- You can now set the default classification for any new record types, and customise whether this can be updated or is fixed. This is useful for sensitive record types like Cabinet where they may always be marked as Cabinet in Confidence.
-
In the Admin Panel, you can set whether a classification should be considered "Open" or "Restricted". You can then use these simpler values for permissions configuration.
-
New options for workflow logic - "All must agree" scenarios
It's now possible to customise a record workflow to send records to a multi-user role, and ask all assignees to agree on the same outcome (e.g. Endorse or approve) before it progresses further. This is a particularly useful workflow capability in situations where a group of users must Endorse or Approve a record - if anyone requests any changes/sends back, then the process should restart.

- Supersede records
Users with necessary permissions can now mark a supersede a record with a clone. Original records that are superseded by new records are linked together. To access this feature requires specific permissions configuration in the Admin Panel.

- Disable recommendations in record type configuration
Not all records require formal recommendations and a decision recorded. You can now customise which record types require recommendations in the Admin Panel. This setting is on by default for all new record types.
- Improved permission controls
We've added more granular options to permission sets and an improved UI. For example, you can now specifically grant access to do things like:
- Upload documents to only specific categories (like Supporting Documents)
- Reassign roles

- Customise signature behaviour
We've enabled admins to selectively choose which record types require signed documents to be returned, or to disable it entirely. By default, all new/existing record types optionally require a signature.

-
Other updates:
-
Option to globally disable SharePoint Online file uploads to records. On by default
- Customise which other document types besides Primary Documents (e.g. Attachments) are supported for a given record type. All document types enabled by default.
Improvements
- Speed and performance updates
With v2.2.9, we've introduced a number of performance-focused improvements. You'll notice this predominantly when performing actions like creating records, assigning roles, updating metadata, or performing workflow actions. Many of these activities take place almost instantly, whereas previously users would need to wait for the UI to respond.
API/Web service updates
- Role assignment Web API endpoint
You can now use the Web API to update any role assignments on a record. We're already seeing customers use these new endpoints to create automations like automatically assigning roles on all new records.
Bug fixes
v2.2.9 includes fixes for many bugs, including key items such as:
- Nested Entra ID groups would previously cause errors in places like record creation when there was a permissions dependency.
- A lot of Export to Excel stabilisation updates
- Workflow errors which would result in the I Want To menu being empty. We've fixed the underlying root cause of these issues in any case we've found, as well as introduced options for admins to be able to override workflow behaviour (disabled by default, requires feature flag to enable)
- RoleAssignments which targeted the "AssignedTo" role weren't always working at expected. This is resolved now.
- Major improvements to document and template auto-population.
